Hey folks,
I have courtside seats to a basketball game tonight. I’m not bragging. I’m afraid. Why? Because I’m always sensitive about not wasting the money that I work hard to earn and that is so graciously provided by folks like you who like my stuff. Part depression era parents, part the reality of crowd funding.
So I feel I need to explain that I did not go out and splash the price of a new car on a Clippers game. The LA Clippers, while better than the Lakers this season, are less popular. So it’s not impossible to find cheap tickets to their game. I also have developed very good StubHub instincts/luck over the years and have found tickets under face value quite consistently. So these weren’t nearly expensive as they will look.
But, you may well ask, if you could get cheap tickets, why not get even cheaper tickets that are not courtside? Wouldn’t those be good enough?
I blame this man
The one on the right. That’s Min Yoongi, aka Suga from BTS.
He’s an incredible producer and rapper. He is my bias.
My wife, Eileen is the bigger BTS fan in the house. She was the one who first found out that Yoongi would be at Korean Culture night at the Clippers game. She— a lifelong Lakers fan who hates the Clippers- started nosing around for possible tickets. It was my bright idea Wednesday evening— possibly after a bourbon— to look at just how much courtside tickets to a Clippers game would be. Because if you were going to see Suga in person at a basketball game, your best chance would likely be courtside. And then I saw how much they were. This was early on before ARMY began driving up prices mind you. And I found some that were not so much that I couldn’t use a little slush fund I saved in Paypal to nab them.
So I said to my wife, I said, “We have been paying vet bills constantly since April, and related to that, we need to do something fun for ourselves. For the price of one of those vet bills would you like to get courtside seats to a Clippers game, which includes parking and food? And possibly have a chance of seeing Yoongi?”
And my friends, my wife said, “Yes. Yes I would.”
So we did. And Pretty much as soon as I finish writing this I’m going to get dressed hop in the car and we are going to drive there and eat as much of their included food as we can.
And to be clear we’re not going to bother Mr. Min. It will be fun to just be in the same general area. We’ll probably be far away from him. But that will still be fun for us, and so will being close to a Clippers-Nuggets game, and so will the food. Heck, I may even get a bourbon.
So that is what we’re doing tonight. And if you happen to watch that game and happen to see one of us on ESPN or something, that would be why. Thank you for your understanding.
Meanwhile my friend Brian gets to interview William Shatner tonight. And frankly I’m a little jealous. Go Brian!
Cheers,
Tom
