Tom Merritt Wants To Help You Be Smarter
He's got two excellent Know A Little more episodes this week.
Hey folks,
First, I went to the Proof exhibition in LA Thursday. It was nice. I saw where Yoongi signed the wall. Met some nice ARMYs. A good time. (Thanks for the Suga postcard!)
On to the week in content! I am so proud of Know A Little More. It’s the show that explains tough tech topics in around 20 minutes. This year we brought on same help from Justin Robert Young’s Dog and Pony Show audio to raise the production value. And while there were a few mixed reactions I think overwhelmingly people have enjoyed it. Even if it took a few episodes. It’s really come a long way from long shows I did as perks on Patreon, to become a show that stands on its own. Now if it just had 10 times the listeners. Heh.
This week we gave you a double shot of KALM.
The scheduled episode was about the DMCA. This version updated the explainer of the copyright rule, to talk about why it’s applied outside the US even though it’s a US law. A few of you asked and so this is the answer.
But then the US Supreme Court went and issued their decisions on two cases related to Section 230, so we did an updated and elevated episodes on what Section 230 is and how these new decisions apply. Huge thanks to Will and Amos for scrambling to get that one together.
We also have a Top 5 things to know about RSS!
And Allison Sheridan gave us her from the street report on how well Tesla self-driving is. Turns out it’s better than I thought! What an excellent episode.
Finally, I have a question. Before I ask this question I have to state flat out that this is the Free Tom Newsletter, and it will stay free.
What I’m wondering is if some of you would like to have something in addition to this newsletter.
Stories!
I’m considering making a paid section of this Substack, strictly for fiction. You’d pay something per month and I’d serialize stories that you’d get by email. So answer me this. Is that something you’d want and how much would you expect to pay? $0 is an acceptable answer. Just trying to get a sense of things.
I got inspired by the Dracula Daily substack, if you’re wondering where this comes from.
Anyway, let me know how much you’d pay for exclusive Tom merritt-written SciFi stories sent right to your inbox.
And have a great weekend everybody!
Cheers,
Tom
