Hello folks,
I’m in Austin, Texas again, but this time it’s not for a surprise party. It’s for Brian Brushwood’s “Founder’s Day” gathering. Back in 2018 or so, Brian bought 7 acres of property to be the headquarters of The Modern Rogue and his other ventures. To help get it off the ground, he got folks in his audience to become founders and once a year (when not thwarted by worldwide pandemics) he invites the founders to gather and celebrate.
The day is a collection of awesome music, comedy and other entertainment. This year Brian asked me to serve as Commissioner of Gaming. For those of you in Nevada or Atlantic City, this is quite different than your commissioners of gaming.
I’ll be presiding over a tournament of skulls. For those of you in Hades or a Bosch painting, this is quite different than your tournament of skulls.
Rather than taking bribes to certify slot machines or judging the angle cut of a beheading, I’ll be helping folks compete at the card game called Skull. There will be no beheading. I hope. There will be no bribes. I regret.
In any case it’s a whole lot of good folks gathering to have a whole lot of fun and I’m honored and pleased that Brian wanted me out here for it. If you’re going to be there be sure to say “Annyeong” to me. Just to prove you read the newsletter. Heh.
And for all y’all, the next episode of Top 5 is out! Roger and I put together a handy tip sheet should your password manager service ever be breached. Enjoy.
Hope that is never needed for you. But now you know.
ALSO, I got the distinct pleasure of geeking out with Jeff Dwoskin on his Classic Conversations podcast talking about old tech new tech and all kinds of fun stuff. Give it a listen!
And I was on a startups podcast which may seem odd for a person running a 10-year-old tech show, but it was a really interesting way of talking about what I do. Big thanks to Rob Walling for having me on for one of the most interesting chats I’ve had in a long time. You gotta check that out too.
FINALLY - if you listen to Daily Tech News Show, be sure to take a couple minutes and answer our yearly survey! It’s quick, easy, and includes a question about pie.
Have a great weekend!
Tom
