Hey folks,
I'm going to Belgium! Yep. Flight's not quite confirmed yet, but if you're going to be at CUE Days - a content management system get together from Stibo DX from November 6-8 - keep an eye out for me!
I've also been developing my tech news newsletter and I think I've finally figured out what it should be. This newsletter you’re reading right now is me talking to you about whatever. That newsletter over there, is going to be me talking to you about tech news. Now, you may rightly say, Tom, you talk to me about tech news on podcasts all the time. But do I? I'm usually playing moderator, or devil's advocate, sometimes both at once, and maintaining a good amount of objectivity.
This tech newsletter is going to deliver my own opinions on tech news, including stories I think are important and why. Stories that may not be in DTNS or DTH or anywhere else. It's the perfect complement to those two shows. Daily Tech Headlines gives you the important tech news to know each day. DTNS gives you perspective from a wide variety of voices. The Tech Tom newsletter gives you my 30-year-perspective on tech news to deepen your understanding.
I'm excited!
I'm also excited about this week's Top 5.
THIS WEEK'S TOP 5 WILL SAVE YOU MONEY
If you know much about Roger Chang, our producer at Daily Tech News Show, you know the man knows the value of a dollar. So when Roger suggested writing a Top 5 on tips to save money on tech I did not hesitate. Count down with us and then start counting the savings!
DTNS
BIG THANKS to the CISO of LinkedIn, Geoff Belknap, who not only shared some important insights on how to bring AI into the workplace securely, but also is just a fun guy to hang out with.
Long Ago and Far Away 2: Son of Elvenwood
I want to give a shout to my friend and fellow podcaster Chris Mancini who is nine days away from completing his Kickstarter for his second graphic novel in the Long Ago and Far Away series. Long Ago and Far Away 2: Son of Elvenwood.
Those of you who picked up the first one, and I know that's many of you, know how fun this world is. And in book 2 there's some timey wimey chicanery that means Jason's son, Lord Stone, is 20 years older than his Dad. Awkward. But when an entire sect of Northern Necromancers is after your son, you help him no matter what the age difference.
If you didn't get Book 1, Chris has an excellent bundle int he Kickstarter to get them both! So you might want to get in on the action before it wraps up!
And so ends a long yet fun week of DTNS, writing scripts for Belgium and making Sawyer the Dog eat his chewable antibiotics. He has a little infection the old man. But hey, he's 105 in human years so I hope that's the only worry I have when I'm that age.
Have a great weekend,
Tom
