Hey folks,
A little late this week because I traveled to Austin for a surprise and wanted to tell you about it but I had to wait for the surprise to happen first. Justin Robert Young is turning 40 soon and his wife, Ashley, got just about every friend or family member he has to fly to Austin this weekend and surprise him. Seriously. John came from New Zealand. Just to do this.
About 20-30 of us came in from all corners of the world and shoved ourselves into the bar at a bowling alley where Justin was told he was meeting “a couple of people.”
He was not only surprised but because there were so many of us the surprise came in waves as he realized more and more people in the bar were there for him. Truly delightful.
Plus I got to see a bunch of people I hadn’t seen in a long time and even meet a few people in person for the first time, like Jen Briney!
Anyway, that’s why I wasn’t on DTNS Friday and why the newsletter is late. Totally worth it.
MORE GUEST APPEARANCES!
My guest tour continued this week! The episode of The Alarmist I did is up. We discussed who is to blame for the 16th street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963. A tough one but an interesting conversation.
I also had a great conversation about everything tech from Section 230 to Autonomous Cars to AI and more with Pete Dominick on his Stand Up! Show. A really fun talk and a great guy to talk to. He says too many kind words about DTNS. Thanks again Pete.
And the episode of Comfort Creatures is up! If you’d like to hear Sarah Lane and me talk nothing but pets, this is the place! So much fun.
I have to say though, one of the things I was most excited about this week was the episode of “A Word with Tom Merritt.” Derrick Goold from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch talked to me about sports, what it means and why people love it. Especially good episode if you don’t get sports.
NEXT WEEK
If you get Spectrum cable in the LA area, you can catch me talking about Section 230 on Inside the Issues. The show starts at 8 PM and I’m supposed to join them toward the end of the hour.
All right folks. Off to embarrass Justin some more.
Cheers,
Tom
