Hi folks!
I just did something big! I handed in the manuscript for Synced! I’m so excited for you all to get a look at the book. It’s the best of Know A Little More and DTNS in a handy reference volume you can take off the shelf or from your Kindle whenever you need it. I honestly think it’s my best non-fiction writing ever.
Thanks to everyone who ordered it! If you haven’t get in quick. You want to be among the folks who backed it in the original round and we’re running along to be funded. There are even some cool levels that get you on DTNS!
The book has multiple sections like Networking, Computers, Security Displays etc. And gives you historical and practical info on what I think are the fundamental things to know about each topics.
So here’s the scoop. I have handed in the draft. The next step is to chop it down to fit the word count. It’s supposed to be 70,000. Right now it’s about 97,000. We may make it bigger but we’ll definitely be slimming it down.
That’s all part of what is called the developmental edit. During that I work with an editor to smooth things out and make sure the whole book makes sense and hangs together. That takes a few months. Then we hand it over for copy editing. That identifies the typos and mistakes we didn’t catch during my writing and developmental edits. Once we’re sure it’s pretty clean it gets turned into a proof. That’s when we do proofreading. A proof is ready for printing, so you don’t want to do any changes in that stage if you don’t have to. So you want it as final as it can be.
After proofreading it gets typeset. Which these days no longer means setting moveable type but making the files that go to printers and eBook stores. Then we get it on promotional schedules, line up reviews and quotes and possible promotional events. And then we launch On a Thursday because books always launch on Thursdays.
That’s going to be next year sometime. I’ll get you a firm date once I know for sure.
I am SO EXCITED! I had a blast making this. It’s been a multiyear effort what with research for KALM and selection an adaptation for the book. But you are going to love it I know. If you love my voice on DTNS or any other show, it’s in here. Trust me. As well as the solid info.
Now ON TO THE PICKS!
Top 5 HATS!
Thanks to Zoe for being one of a few people who said I should count down my top 5 favorite hats. Here they are.
Song PICK - I stan U (관객이 될게 (I stan U))
I’m going to see IU in concert in Los Angeles tonight so I have had her songs on repeat. This isn’t necessarily my favorite of hers but it’s up there. And it’s all about loving her fans. And about loving all kinds of music. IU is the best.
TV Show of the Week - The Gold Zone - Olympics - NBC
The time differnce makes it so we can just turn on the Olympics int he morning and watch the best of all of it on Gold Zone until about 1. NBC is doing this part very well. I never feel bored and I never feel like I’m missing anything.
Seven the Dog Pic of the Week - Just enjoying some quiet time by the couch like a good puppy. Not going to chew on any of the furniture or anything, I promise. A
App of the week - GoodPup
This app has training lessons inside and weekly video instruction we pay for that’s pretty reasonable. It’s been really helpful in guiding our training and helping Seven become a really good boy. We meet with Christina once a week and it’s been fun seeing his progress through her eyes and learning from her. We just prop up the iPhone in our training are and chat. She can see us and Seven and help give feedback. And then the app has followups on the lessons to help us practice. That’s the key really.
Thanks all! I’m off to the IU concert. Look on my Instagram if you want pics.
Cheers!
Tom
