Hi folks,
I may have done something really bad. I decided to name the top 5 YouTubers. You know, YouTube is not necessarily a place where calm heads prevail. So I knew it was risky. But I took a survey across multiple platforms to see who might get mentioned the most. And it was surprising as all get out! So, before the internet erases me for not naming their favorite, take a look at the Top 5 YouTubers. And it was nice knowing you.
Q&A
I’m going to do a little Q&A in the newsletter for the first time this week! I generally will respond directly to people who comment on the Substack or email me back at the newsletter email address. But this past week I got a couple questions I thought many of you might want to hear the answer to. So here goes!
In response to last week’s email about the crazy Rose Bowl parking instructions! Matt writes:
Wow, those parking instructions are insane. If you're the type of person who worries it'd tip you over the edge.
You need to let us know how it went in next week's newsletter.. If you ever make it out of there! 😉
Matt.
Ah yes. I did make it out! And I even made it to the show on time! Here’s how it played out.
We arrived around 6 PM. That meant we knew we were missing the first of the three acts. We parked at the remote parking garage and took the shuttle up to the stadium. We followed signs and got int he garage super fast. There didn’t seem to be a lot of people in that garage even. But there were a lot of people waiting for the shuttles.
The process for the shuttles was smooth. If you prepaid (which we did) you showed your pass and got waved through. There were about 6-7 shuttles waiting at any given moment and soon as one filled up it took off for the ten minute ride up to the Rose Bowl.
However.
The line took just less than an hour. So we got in line around 6 and got to the Rose Bowl at 7. It let us off right by the gate though and we waltzed in and found our seat.s we got rained on a little unexpectedly, but mostly the night was great! Her was fantastic! So was that band that played last ;)
We cheated a little on the way back. We left during the encore and got on a shuttle in a couple minutes. We had no trouble getting out of the parking garage and on our way. I’m not sure how it would have been if we stayed all the way to the end.
One oddity. We bought a really expensive bottle of water which came in a reusable metal bottle. The whole night was filled with please for sustainability. On the way out a security person told me I could not take the bottle of water out of the stadium with me. There wasn’t much left so I didn’t argue but not very sustainable there Rose Bowl.
QUESTION 2
Hey Tom!
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Ahsoka series after the finale airs next week. Maybe right here in this newsletter!
--Kev
Thanks Kev!
As a fan of Star Wars: Rebels there was lots to have fun with. Because it was essentially live action Star Wars; Rebels, set years after the events of the animated series. I liked the actor they got to play Sabine but I wonder what another person might have been like. I thought Rosario Dawson nailed an older jaded Ahsoka. So good. Ezra didn’t feel completely Ezra to me until that scene near the very end. Thrawn seemed to have a paunch? But he was pretty good. For lore nuts (like myself) this was a feast. For 1977-era Star Wars fans, it had a lot of the feels. But I don’t think it’s for everyone. Certainly behind Andor in mass appeal. But I enjoyed it quite a bit!
Thanks!
Thanks for the questions everybody! I’m off to do DTNS then see Enhypen at a soccer field in Carson, CA. That’s going to be interesting. For old time BOL fans, Eileen and I are meeting Phatemokid there! And then Dine LA has begun where mid to high-end restaurants give discounted meals. So we’re planning to go sampling some food we couldn’t otherwise afford. I shall report back if you like!
Cheers,
Tom
The Rose Bowl probably reuses the metal water bottles. Molly Wood covered a company on Everybody in the Pool that does this. You buy a metal water bottle, use it, dump it off at the machine, the machine then inspects it, cleans it, and puts it back into service.
