The Tom Before the Storm
Hey folks,
It’s the calm before the storm for me. This weekend not much is going on. I’m having the trees trimmed in advance of the winter winds. The World Series starts tonight. But nothing in particular on the schedule.
That changes soon. Next week I’m going to Blizzcon, specifically to see Le SSerafim perform. Then the next day I fly to Belgium for CUE Days, a conference for folks int he news industry put on by Stibo DX. So if by some chance you’re headed there give me a shout! I’m honored they asked me to speak.
Then I’ll be filling in for Justin on Px3 for a week and then headed to San Jose for my niece’s birthday. After that I can finally relax right? There’s no big holidays or anything coming is there?…
Meanwhile on this week’s Top 5, it’s a spoiler for a future Know a Little More! Heh. It’s like seeing the movie before reading the book. Get the brush up on RISC V.
SPEAKING of Know A Little More, this week’s episode starts with Douglas Adams. It is about Collaborative Editing. The story of how we go from Douglas Engelbart’s demonstration in 1968 to Google Docs is a long and unpredictable one.
Oh and I’ve been doing regular live streams by the way. It’s just me chatting. Not overly produced or anything. Here’s the latest one.
AND FINALLY
The book!
If you liked last week’s first chapter, you can keep reading in the paid version of the newsletter. Here are the links!
And here’s a tiny tease from chapter 2.
“Lin walked across the bright white plain, the auto-glasses adjusted to reduce the glare but it was still blinding. And cold. Temperatures out here were well below freezing. And yet the white plain was not caused by snow, but ash, caused by an endless chain of fires.
Lin opened the rusting cover that led down in what they all called the bunker. From the outside it looked like a manhole in the middle of nowhere. Exactly what you’d expect to lead to a bunker.”
All right, off to Barnes and Noble to do some research on a secret project and then to the pet store to get Sawyer new food. He’s eating everything except his old kibble. Old man has standards I tell you.
Cheers,
Tom
