Please Preorder Tom Merritt's New Book
It's called Synced: Understand Technology and Make it Work for You
Hi folks,
The crowdfunding stage of the publishing road of my book just launched. I want you to ask questions, so just email me back or add a comment on Substack. Ask me anything!
But let me anticipate a few:
When will it come out?
I don’t know. Seriously. It’s still being written. My guess is by the end of the year. The preorder phase kicks off the project. Then I get into the behind the scenes aspect of writing, editing, layout, promotions etc. I’ll keep you up to date on all of that. But none of that happens without preorders. That’s fairly typical for nonfiction.
What’s going to be in the book?
That’s still being nailed down but the idea is several sections focused on the important tech topics of now. AI, Crypto, Privacy and security. Think the kind of thing you get in Know A Little More, in book form.
How many preorders do you need?
I think it’s around 500 supporters. Right now it’s 11% funded with 52 supporters.
Why is the price in British Pounds?
Unbound, the publisher, is a British company. Friend of the shows, Wil Harris is the CEO and they’re in the UK. I have nto determined if this means they won’t correct my spelling of colour and grey.
What can I do to help?
Beyond preordering, tell people about it! This book is meant to be widely appealing. Like Know A Little More, I’ll write in a way that acknowledges tech savvy folks, but also explains things in a way folks who are less tech savvy can still understand. It’s a manual for licing in the present. The easy way to tell people to go order it is tomsnewbook.com.
When will you stop talking about it?
NEVER. Or when it’s fully funded. At least I’ll take a breather then.
Why are you so nervous?
I’ve never done a nonfiction book! I want this to work. I think it could open a lot of other doors for me and DTNS. More people will book you and promote you if you have a book. So many reasons.
THANK YOU for entertainign the idea of this book. I really appreciate it.
I’m so focused on it that I almost forgot we did one of my favorite top 5s this week. We looked back at things people got wrong in their initial iPhone reviews in 2007. So much fun!
Enjoy.
Tom
